COACHES

What it takes to be an NTSC Coach

NTSC coaches must be devoted to performing in a committed and professional manner, shown through loyalty, honesty, integrity, a positive attitude, proper behavior, and an intense work ethic.

It is imperative for the coach to expect and display accountability, both in athletics and in life, to one another and, ultimately, to God.

At NTSC we are committed to a growth-oriented philosophy. The win-at-all-costs emphasis must be tempered when accounting for the personal well-being and athletic development of the player as an individual.

Every player is unique in personality, athleticism, technical ability, and tactical understanding of the game. When referring to physical and/or technical performance, one cannot realistically levy identical expectations against two players of varying ability or development.

It is of the utmost importance that the expectations of the coach be realistically achievable by the respective player. Only then can a less developed player find self-perpetuating success and growth, and only then can a more skilled player be pushed to reach their individual potential regardless of the maximum capacity of their teammates.

As a coach, it is important that each player is aware of the technical objectives of any given training session and that the design of any given practice facilitates the accomplishment of the specified objectives.

Possibly the most difficult aspect of coaching has nothing to do with the players themselves. The task of being an ambassador to the player’s parents can prove quite taxing by itself.

It is essential that clear expectations are communicated and the parents understand that instruction, particularly in game situations, should come from the coach as many parents do not attend practices and are unfamiliar with the specific skills being taught.

The only universal expectation for an NTSC coach is a desire for growth and development in the execution of the fundamentals of the game and a commitment to displaying the hard work required to accomplish such growth by their players.
